Horsemanship Camp

One of things we are most proud of at the Crosspatch is our Horsemanship Camps.

For over 15 years, we have hosted a camp suitable for ages 6 years and up and we also have a personalized camp for adults as well.  We teach at all levels and provide an engaging atmosphere including lessons, educational speakers, trail riding and care and maintenance. The week long horsemanship camp for the younger ones takes place in the first week of July, pictured above!

Adult Horsemanship Camp

Every day we see more adults becoming involved with horses and they have very few places to go to get basic instruction as well as a refresher for dealing with  problems. We work to achieve confidence and safety so you can enjoy your horse expedience to the fullest and have the confidence and ability to handle any situation.   We start by setting goals, inspecting tack and work on an obstacle course we put to use later on real trails. We also put a drill team together. Our goal at the end of our camp is to put  you on your way to a more lasting relationship with your horse.

We encourage you to bring your own horse so we can work with the both of you, but we also provide horses.  Camping and stabling are available.

Please call us for more information or e-mail us at jimdolly@webtv.net

We are truly a Horsemanship Camp.  Our camp is Western Discipline Camp geared to the first time horse owner as well as other levels of horse experience.

Competent instructors and assistants are employed. Management of the horse, equipment and stables will be taught with emphasis on safety, behavioral patterns, schooling and training, Ring Work, video taping, lectures, demonstrations, recreation, and crafts are provided throughout the week.

Equitation is included and stressed as an important part of the overall development of a good horseman; however it is not the sole ingredient.

The overall goal can be described as Personal Development or more recently “Life Skills” development, opportunities for all to acquire knowledge, skills and abilities that will be useful to them throughout life.

We have found that group camping experiences are excellent opportunities for bringing all to the point where they feel confident to cope with or be accepted into the mainstream of society. Camp is a good setting for the individual to become motivated for increased learning and enjoyment of life.

Our Camp gives the opportunity for expert instruction while riding his/her own horse or pony.  Problems of both the horse and rider can be recognized immediately and an attempt made to correct these faults.  But it also gives the opportunity for the person without a horse to rent one of ours.
